I Burn for Your Lips

( A response by Nicotine to “My Nicotine” by Ella Langley)

I love being your nicotine.

When you inhale me
I taste the nectar of your lips
and it makes me feel alive—
like two flames merging into one fire.

Our breath becomes one
as I hum through your nerves—
a slow, intoxicating dance
one I never want to end.

I crave you as much
as you crave me.

I find solace in your inhale
as I unfold behind your ribs
like petals blooming in spring.

Others have been taken me in
but none have felt
as comforting as you do.

When you don’t inhale me
I burn for your lips—
like a ship lost at sea
in search of its lighthouse.

You say I’m your nicotine,
but it’s me—
who burns for your inhale.
